Het AP heeft geconcludeerd dat er tot dusver niets "bijzonder explosiefs" staat in het archief van de Wiki cables wat is begonnen te worden vrijgegeven. Die bewering is discutabel op zich. Maar wie tijd heeft om door de documenten te bladeren zal zowel boeiende en degelijk nieuwe en nieuwswaardige informatie over het Amerikaanse buitenlandbeleid en internationale politiek vinden.

WikiLeaks says the documents will be released in stages "over the next few months," so much of what we know now comes through the filter of the handful of media organizations who had access to the full archives. Wikileaks zegt dat de documenten zullen worden uitgebracht in fasen "in de komende paar maanden", dus veel van wat we nu weten komt door de filter van een handjevol media-organisaties die toegang hadden tot de volledige archieven.     Specifically, the scholar noted the Brookings Institute's recent release of its annual poll on what Arabs think about Iran, the United States, and Israel.

    "The results are rather striking. They show that Arab opinion holds that the major threat in the region is Israel. That's 80 percent. The second major threat is the United States. That's 77 percent. Iran is listed as a threat by 10 percent. With regard to nuclear weapons rather remarkably, the majority -- in fact 57 percent -- say that it will have a positve effect on the region if Iran had nuclear weapons. These are not small numbers," he said.

    Gezien het een reactie is op de premature mening dat er tot dusver niets "bijzonder explosiefs" in staat, lijkt me de vlotte top 10 gerechtvaardigd.

    Discrepantie tussen de mening van het volk en die van leiders is natuurlijk niet verrassend...
